Mind me.

She was sitting on the edge of the Saturn rings and watching the stars...
Yes, you would think it is impossible to "sit on the Saturn rings" but things like physics and laws of nature had never restrained her.
Otherwise we couldn't call her a "female". A female with magnifically vivid imagination as well.

Anyway, there she was... sitting on the Saturn rings and wondering about life.
Life that she had thrown away.
And for what?
I'll tell you why.
Just because for some silly reason she thought that it would be a great idea to abandon everything. Just to go to Space. Have a "broader view" on things.
Now she sat there and watched into the Space. All the stars, some satellites, planets... That was probably the boardest view anyone can ever have.
Yet she felt like she had nothing.
I mean, the view was great, but at the same time meaningless.

So she started missing things she had on Earth.
The nature shows on TV, long discussions on subjects like "rules" or "society" (there were practically none in the space). She missed everything.
But she knew that it was a fair deal.
She got what she thought she wanted.
The fact that she wasn't happy was purely her problem, not anyone else's.

Darkness falls...

She ran...
She was trying to make it from the "area J" to the "area K". And she had just reached the graphene walls that separate those two areas. The door was firmly closed.
First of all you will probaly ask: "What's the difference?"
That is the question she has asked herself many times before...
So here's the anwser.
As we all know, the alphabet runs from A to Z...
So do the "areas". And she was just in between. Between areas "J" and "K".
We are all born in area "A". This is the safest area where it's smart to raise your young ones. Kind of a nursery. And as you move on and grow, you have the opportunity to go to the next level.
And she had managed (despite her young age) to move effortlessly from "A" to the "M" area. So thanks to moving through half of the areas she was considered to be kind of a "wonder child".
An attainment most of us can only dream of.

But the "J" area was kind of her personal favourite.
She first gained the permission to go to the "area J" about 4 lightyears ago. Those were different times.
Times before the invasion of the Malaria, that swept away more than half of the planets life forms.
4 lightyears ago "area J" consisted only the smartest of our kind. All the scientists, philosophers and artists gathered to the area J. When she got there, many people thought she was too young and she herself wasn't sure she could make it. But after few months she started doing reasearch on biomolecules with dr Klessing and proved herself as a useful appendage to the group.
But the life expectancy in that area was pretty low thanks to the high radon levels in the air so she moved on to the peaceful area K.
That was quite calm area, so people coming from area J would be able to relax. Also it was the only area from the total of 26, where scientists had managed to retrain Earth-like enviorment.

Anyway, now she was trapped in area J.
Everything was so white that it hurt her eyes. The floor, the walls, the ceiling... everything.
She started banging against the graphene walls. Hoping for someone to open the doors and let her into the K area, where she could be safe and sound.
But no one heard her... or at least that's how things appeared.
She felt how the air was sucked out and her heart started beating really fast.
There was no way out.

What she didn't know was that there was a guard on the other side of the door. He watched her sufferings through the tiny camera he had installed on the ceiling the day before.
She knew the guard. And the guard knew her as well.
The guard ran his delicate fingers through a cats fur that was sitting on his lap.
He had always preferred the company of animals to the company of men.
The light and a womans siluet that he was gazing from his computer monitor reflected on his big glasses.
The guard carelessly disheveled his curly brown hair and smirked.
He watched the big red button in front of him that controlled the doors between areas J and K.
He wasn't going to push the button.
He knew better...
She didn't deserve to be saved. Not by him. She had only brought him trouble in the past.
Her crazy projects only made the guards job harder and in the end she never even thanked him.
No, he was not going to push that red button even if it meant he would lose his job.
She got what was coming to her...
